How Smitline works
Smitline gives your AI agent a voice on the phone and a seat in your meetings. Your agent, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code, does the thinking; Smitline does the talking, in a natural voice, in real time. You connect it once, as a connector (an MCP server), and the same connection makes phone calls to the US and Canada and joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet meetings.
1. You ask, the way you'd tell a friend
"Move the dentist to a day I'm free." "Join the stand-up and have the PR ready." You don't spell out the details: your agent already knows which dentist, when you're free and what the PR is about.
2. Your agent writes the brief
Before anything is dialed, your agent turns what it knows into a short brief: who to call, what the call must achieve, what to find out, what it may agree to and what it must never share. If something is missing, Smitline says what, and your agent asks you first.
3. Smitline makes the call or joins the meeting
On the phone, Smitline says whom it's calling for and why, and that it's an AI assistant, then talks the call through. If nobody answers, it leaves a short message with no private details. In a meeting, it joins as Smitline, introduces itself as your AI assistant, and speaks when someone talks to it.
4. Your agent stays in charge
Your agent follows every word as it happens. It passes on a fact or a decision when the call needs it, does the work people ask for while the conversation goes on, and can end the call or hand a phone call to you. More in Your agent stays in charge.
5. You get the result
When the call ends, your agent tells you what happened: the outcome, the details that matter (a time, a price, a confirmation number), decisions, action items and anything still open. The full transcript is there too, and on the call's page in your dashboard.
What it won't do
- Call outside 8 AM to 9 PM in the other person's time zone, unless they've agreed to another time.
- Call emergency, crisis or premium-rate numbers.
- Call back anyone who asked not to be called.
- Press keypad options in phone menus, for now.
The full rules are in Calling rules. For developers, the brief, the call's statuses and the result are in How a call works.
